Betty Murle Yokeley Harris

"Betty was born in Marshall, Missouri. Betty was very intelligent, hard working and an extremely devoted person. She made good grades in school, but she had to work for them. She kept the house clean for mom and did a little cooking for our family. During the summer and sometimes on weekends she worked at the corner grocery for spending money. She completed one year of college. Her husband to be, Virland Stanley (Buck) Harris was attending college in Marshall where they met. They married on 18 October 1951. They moved to Clinton, MO where her husband was coach of the football team. After one year they moved to Independence, MO and he coached at East High in Kansas, City, MO. Betty worked for a clothes supplier for many years up to the time the owners closed it. She wasted no time finding work for the County in their law office. Betty found out she had cancer on her gum. She took cancer treatments getting weaker by the day. The lawyers made a space right at the entrance but Betty was too proud to take it. Prior to finding the cancer she had an operation on one eye. The eye wouldn't heal because of the cancer treatments. We had Mom in a nursing home in Glasgow, MO about 100 miles from Kansas City. Approximately two weeks prior to her death Betty would drive those 200 miles round trip with only one eye to visit Mother. At times Mom didn't even know her. Al those years I was away. I never got to really know Betty. What a wonderful human being. I hope her kids are as proud of her as I am. Betty Passed away in Independence, Missouri."

"What a joy to have this Pollock as a brother-in-law. Just one look at him and he could brighten your day. He was born 8 September 1923 at Harvey, IL. He died at Independence, MO on 5 July 1988. Well educated, receiving a degree from Loyola University in Chicago and a degree from Missouri Valley College in Marshall, MO. He loved fast cars, farming, sports and telling Pollock jokes. He was an alumni football player from Missouri Valley College. Buck couldn't go anywhere in Marshall without people going out of their way just to say "Hello".  While teaching in Kansas City (KC) the coach of the professional football team "Chiefs", Hank Stem, talked him into buying some farmland next to his.  He loved to sit on that Ford tractor and disc, plow, fertilize, you name it.  If he could do it on that tractor he was one happy Pollock. In his later years he could hardly walk, his knees gave out on him from playing football.  I again was not there for so many years and missed a lot but I don't think my sister, Betty, couldn't have married a better man.

Betty and Buck raised two boys, Virland Stanley Harris and Scott Harris.  They both graduated from college and both have their own businesses."
