| Emma Charlotte Harris Morton Solomon Emma had a tragic life. Her mother, Almeda Harris, died after her twelfth child when Emma was 16 years old in 1887. Almeda's first two and last child died in infancy. Emma was the oldest child to survive infancy and had eight younger siblings to care for after her mother's death.
Emma married Thomas Morton at age 20 in 1891. Three years later after their first child, Tommy Morton, was born, her husband died when Tommy was just over a month old in 1894.
Emma remarried to John "James" Solomon four years later in 1898. They had a daughter, Myrtle Solomon in 1899.
Unfortunately, Emma's son, Tommy Morton was accidentally shot and killed by a friend in a hunting accident when Tommy was 16 years old in 1910.
Then four years later, Emma's daughter, Myrtle died of consumption in 1914.
Not sure what happened to her second husband, but Emma lived to be 88 years old and died in 1959. Her youngest sister, Mollie Harris Vardiman took care of her in her old age. Emma died at home. |

Although the print is too faded to fully read there is enough evidence from the transcriptionist "Sol??? and Emma Mor???" to know this is the correct license and date for Emma's second marriage. |
