Jerry Vardaman, professor of Archaeology at the Cobb Institute of Archaeology of Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi deciphered a stone tablet called the Aemilius Secundus discovered 300 years ago in Beirut and housed in Italy's Venice Museum. The inscription describes a census ordered by Quirinius, Governor of Syria, a few years before 10 B.C. According to the Gospel of Luke, (Luke 2:2) Quirinius was Governor at the time of the census that sent Mary and Joseph from their home in Nazareth to Bethlehem, Joseph's home town.
