  • Grover Cleveland, Twenty-fourth U.S. President (second term)

  • (1893-1897) Their third daughter, Marion, was born in 1895 at their summer cottage, Buzzard's Bay. In the president's retirement two sons would complete the family: Richard in 1897, and Francis, born in 1903.

  • The first professional football game was played in Latrobe, PA, on September 3, 1895.

  • The Men Who Built America

  • Westinghouse/Tesla's AC electrical system powered the Niagra Falls Hydroelectric plant to provide electricity for the northeast. Eventually JP Morgan intimidated George Westinghouse into giving up Tesla's AC patents because he threatened to take Westinghouse to court over patent infringement. Even though Morgan knew he would lose he would put Westinghouse out of business because Westinghouse had too much debt and couldn't withstand the costs of a lawsuit. Morgan than bought out the majority of shares of Edison's company and Morgan had control of the electricity industry and renamed it General Electric.

“Conditions for workers across the country become almost unbearable as going to work for many Americans became a dangerous proposition. The gap between the rich and the poor continues to grow at a staggering rate. While the working-class struggles, profits for Carnegie (Carnegie Steel), Morgan (General Electric), and Rockefeller (Standard Oil) are better than ever. A seething under current of anger takes hold. With an election year on the horizon a politician from Nebraska is channeling the public’s frustrations. William Jennings Bryan is an up and coming political force vowing to put an end to the country’s monopolies” with anti-trust regulations.
