in 1920's in New York

Mr. John W. Vardeman and Mrs. Bertha Vardeman,

known as Ferne Hollis on the Vaudeville stage, arrested for theft of $500,000 worth of Liberty bonds from Chase National Bank in New York. John sentenced to four to eight years in Sing Sing and Bertha to one and a half years to three years in women's prison in Auburn.

Otho H. Vardeman

Otho H Vardeman caught embezzling from People's Bank & Trust in Shelbyville, Kentucky where he worked as a cashier. He gambled with bank money over three to four years and lost over $60,000.
